Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received significant support from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory obviously but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “During our regular discussions I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them after this game so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager highlighted known failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase of this nature with results this poor.”
Jones concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
