Fans Call for Custody of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the pop star are calling for that a individual who jumped a barrier and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A circulating clip shows the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing media personnel and lunging at Grande while the cast made its way down a yellow carpet flanked by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being detained", though official papers indicated that he was scheduled to appear on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
Record of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed includes clips of him disturbing other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney show in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last winter.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is evidently a punishable act," commented an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Express Concern Over the Star's Past Trauma
Numerous fans blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed dealing with PTSD after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said another message on Instagram.
Several attendees also criticised guards at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while others demanded online networks to remove Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In footage circulating online, Grande looked surprised when she was touched by the man. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of fans had assembled in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore venue, including several who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it started.
The film, to be released on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-film interpretation of the acclaimed stage production Wicked, which revolves around the surprising relationship between two contrasting witches.
The production itself is a derivative of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a rosé sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of 2024 in the UK, and scored a dozen Academy Award nods, winning two for best costume and set decoration.
