Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Regional Military Operations.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity near the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is unclear and the United States has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - stated they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the government.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.
It said wreckage fell on a residential area in the capital, resulting in some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
