Jurgen Klopp states coming back to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, indicated that returning someday remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign that included continental glory and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, now holds positions as head of global soccer for Red Bull and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League last season, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the idea that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he told Steven Bartlett: “I said I will never coach another team in England. Therefore in case it's my former club...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, that means the choice could be mine in a few years, who knows. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on the specific conditions must arise to bring him back to management, Klopp admitted he isn't eager to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip press conferences multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games meaning regularly great spirits around the place. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended of the current boss, acknowledging his role for the adjustments which secured the championship last campaign. The team has suffered four consecutive matches in every contest post heavy investment, but he rubbished the suggestion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, incredible player. It’s a really good well-judged squad. No need for concern about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and the effect at the club. The forward died tragically in a vehicle collision alongside his brother in July.
“How do you replace a person like him? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it's his character. It's hard to picture the dressing room missing him. Putting it into words is tough about it. A devastating blow for all the boys too. Not a single person would cite it as an excuse yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Dealing with that on a personal level is difficult. Overwhelming.”
