The English Team to Launch the European Championship 2028 Journey at the Etihad Stadium
England’s men’s team will embark on their Euro 2028 journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, assuming they achieve the anticipated entry for a tournament hosted across the majority of the UK and the Ireland.
Manchester City’s home ground has not staged an English men’s game since May 2016, when the visitors were overcome 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to host the Three Lions for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.
England are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley, but, in the event of winning the preliminary round, their round of 16 match would occur at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Placing second would mean starting the playoffs at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Tournament Kickoff and Demonstration
The event was launched at an ceremony in central London on Wednesday evening. Senior figures from Uefa and the organizing bodies were heckled as they arrived the location by around fifty activists, who demanded Israel’s national side to be kicked out from the sport because of the situation in Gaza.
Signs were displayed with phrases saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators shouted: “Kick Israel out.”
Championship Fixture List
The first match of the tournament will be staged at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will feature the Welsh team if they qualify.
The national stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the title decider, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a start time at 5pm.
It is expected that an earlier start, which will also be implemented for UEFA Champions League finals from the following campaign, will appeal to families and help reach a broader range of fans.
Qualifying Teams
The Republic of Ireland are scheduled to play their opening match at the Aviva Stadium and the Tartan Army would do the same at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
All four host countries’ teams will enter the qualification process; two automatic spots will be set aside for any that fail to qualify for Euro 2028 through the standard process.
Locations and Knockout Stage
Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium complete the event’s nine venues. All will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches played at every host’s main arena.
The draw for the qualifiers will be held in Belfast, which was excluded as a venue city last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be renovated in time, on a date in late 2026.
Official Statement
“This will be a competition for the fans and a celebration of everything we love about the sport – its passion and power to unite individuals.”
In excess of three million tickets, a record for a Euro tournament, are anticipated to be offered to supporters.
