The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
