It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
